Choir Decorum by Phil Bingham


Church Decorum: We are changing church practices, not principles, to meet the music needs of the 21st century people. Principles include biblical doctrines, historical church practices, liturgy, and customs i.e. communion & baptism. Principles include approaching, listening, and responding to God in worship. Practices are things like style and tempo of psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.  People need to have equal music access to worship God. The Music leaders assignment  is to secure CHOIR DECORUM means retool/multisensory (best practices) relevant worship through: engaging the people to use all the senses in worship:
  1. (1)richness of image; (2)word; (3)smell; (4)sound; (4)taste. (5)worship across the wide music historical spectrum and range.
  2. The music leaders assignment  is to engage everyone in relevant worship, so that everyone (generation, social class, culture, ethnicity, gender)  has an opportunity to experience God musically.
In addition, choir decorum means introducing:
  1. the best spiritual and music practices for exercising their music gifting.
  2. The best spiritual and music practices in worship
  3. The best spiritual and music practices in continuing bible study, denomination polity and spiritual formation
  4. The best spiritual and music practices in music evangelism
  5. The best spiritual and music practices in music training and accelerated music education
  6. The best spiritual and music practices in church  music renewal attractive to young people
  7. The best spiritual and music practices in developing lay music leadership
